The Moon Below is the sweeping saga of Hallie Morgan, who, in the early years of the nineteenth century, sailed halfway around the world, not knowing where she was going, to join a man she had seen only twice, when she was a child. Here she led others to freedom. Here she fought for justice and the plight of women who walked off the ships that brought them to this new land. If it had not been for her, they would have lived lives of poverty and abuse. History tells us that single-handedly one woman actually did all this. But I have given these attributes to my heroine who has a far different personality than either of the actual historical women on whom I base this sprawling novel. Australia, in the early 1800s, was a land of unbelievable opportunity, big skies, animals and natives like the world had never seen before, of seemingly endless land, wide open spaces and surreal landscapes. It fostered cruelty as well as hope, love as well as tragedy, opportunities that were surprising and never before experienced by anyone, any place.

The Moon Below is one of my favorite books of 2016. Interesting and well written, it tells of a young girl from England who travels to Australia to marry a man she hardly knows. When he is called away, she handles running the station . Many characters, plots and subplots makes this a book not to miss. I have discovered Barbara Bickmore from reading The Moon Below and have now been reading many others by her, each one a wonderful read..Product details

As typical of B. Bickmore's books, this was a page-turner. Excellent read. Love her research and the historical perspective she brings to her novels.
This book was excellent. I have a friend who lives in New South Wales and am mailing it to her as the setting of this book is the beginning of New South Wales. Don't hesitate to buy this one if you are an avid reader like I am.
This is a great story, well written and researched. The book follows a young woman on her journey to a new live in the early years of the colony of New South Wales. The characters are well developed and credible. I love the story it,s one of those books I can read over an over again. It's feels like escaping into a different time and place. Great book for a lazy summer holiday.
What a great saga in a new land. Loved all the characters. Good from beginning until the end. First time I read this author and thoroughly enjoyed her style and substance.
This is the best book I have ever read. I actually read the book twice in paperback so when I saw it on , I just had to download it. The whole story was so interesting about a young girl who was asked by a preacher to move to Australia and marry a man she had known as a child. The story starts with a very long trip by boat where she meets a doctor who took care of her during her sea sickness and settled in the same area she moved to. She is left alone by her husband for a very long periods of time and had to learn how to run a sheep farm by herself. It was just amazing the things that she went through and how she overcame them. I dont want to say more but anyone that I told to read this book absolutely loved it.
My mother gave me this book to read when I was a young girl. I have never been able to forget it and purchased my own copy recently. I work a lot and go to school, but in my spare time, I always pick it back up and read it wherever I go. I have always admired Hallie and the story of her life and I've never forgotten the lessons that I learned about hard work and perseverance that I read about in this book when I was younger. Though there are some adult scenes, I believe it is an excellent read for young women and teens. The story is very inspirational and Hallie is a woman that we can all aspire to be and that young women can learn from. The story of her life is a breath of fresh air...it sparked a curiosity in me about Australia so long ago and I have always wanted to travel to see it, just as Hallie did. I know that I will one day, and I hope there are still wild, untamed parts of it left to experience. I will miss Hallie when the book is finished...perhaps that is why I'm taking so long to read it. I don't want it to be over!
